Neck and back pain occurs when one of the joints in the spine or limbs loses its normal joint function. This dysfunction is assessed and measured through orthopedic testing, neurologic testing, and range of motion testing. In addition, joint dysfunction can lead to muscle imbalances, muscle pain and a continuous pain cycle:
- The loss of joint play can cause abnormal signals to the nervous system
- The muscles related to that joint can subsequently become tense or, conversely, underactive
- The resulting muscle imbalance can place increased stress on the joint, increasing the rate of arthritis progression
Any joint can cause mechanical pain; joints are designed to move and when they do not, pain and degeneration occurs.
At Denver Integrated Spine Center, we implement conservative treatment that is designed to maximize motion, improve flexibility and finally maximize muscular coordination, endurance and strength.
